Understanding the way your users are going to use your platform plays an essential role in creating conversions online. I have experience conducting research in these areas using techniques such as expert review, guerrilla testing and eye-tracking
I love tackling design challenges from a human centered approach in order to create powerful user experiences and interfaces. I'm a firm believer that in web design less is more
Luke Dodsworth Portfolio
My university final project to create a portfolio website for videographer Luke Dodsworth
Luke Dodsworth is a Manchester based videographer, content creator and editor who studied at the University of South Wales.
The main challenge faced in this project was implementing the significant amount of media without having a negative impact on loading times. With Luke's previous portfolio racking up over 30 seconds in loading times I used techniques such as lazy loading and gZip compression in order to reduce times. The new optimized website loads significantly faster.View the Luke Dodsworth Portfolio Project
A full website project created for Get Chucked, an american inspired restaurant where I have worked as Sous-Chef for two years.
Get Chucked is an american style restaurant based in Manchester founded by street food traders 'Dirty Dogs' and events organisers Guerrilla Eats. Starting as a 6 week pop-up they had so much success that they decided to settle down and become a permanent fixture within the town of Urmston.
Initially Get Chucked simply wanted their menu and telephone number available online. Over time I continued to develop the website into something more functional and hopefully more professional. As one of my first web projects there are many things I'm not happy about with the original Get Chucked website. For instance, I developed this website before learning how to use responsive design and therefor the website serves a different version to phones by detecting models. I am currently in the process of designing a new website to coincide with the launch of their new restaurant.
New Mix Concrete
A rebrand and prototyping project for one of the UK's largest barrow mix concrete services which is currently being developed by Yell.
New mix is the UK's original barrow mix concrete supplier. They have over 30 years of experience within their industry and currently find most of their work through word of mouth. This rebranding and prototyping project entailed the creation of a new logo as well as a full website design and working prototype.
For this project the intention was to give the New Mix brand a refresh. Their old website was developed in the early 00's and is fairly grey. I oversaw the creation of a new version of their logo where we took the original barrow man and recreated it in a modern style. For the website prototype I took inspiration from paralax design styles and made the brand colours more prominent.View the New Mix Project
A university project I undertook within a team to create an online magazine for the Information and Communications department of Manchester Metropolitan University.
MMUstBee is an online magazine aimed at both current and prospective students of Manchester Metropolitan University's Information and Communiations department as well as their parents. The website is intended to give students access to information relating to courses and life as a student within the department with the intention of inreasing the number of applicants.
For this project we intended to create something in the vein of BuzzFeed for students within the department. As the only developer working on the project my focus was on the technical side of the project including the information architecture, technical specifications and the development itself.View the Get Chucked Project
Web Animation and Transitions
